What Google Chat's meeting recaps mean for your team
Drafted through my n8n + AI pipeline, edited by me.
Meeting recaps are now posting themselves into Google Chat for any Google Meet call with Gemini turned on. Google began the rollout on October 16, 2026, and the recap card summarizes the discussion, lists decisions and action items with named owners, and links back to the transcript, recording, and notes doc. No Zap, scenario, or workflow required.
That is useful on its own. Most small service businesses still rely on someone typing notes during the call, or on a message an hour later asking who can send the recap. A card in the same Chat thread closes that gap without anyone building anything.
What meeting recaps actually require
The card only appears if 'Take notes for me' was turned on during the call and there is an existing chat conversation tied to that meeting. If the host sets notes to go to hosts and co-hosts only, the group never sees a recap at all. The card itself posts quietly, with no bold text and no unread badge, so it is easy to scroll past in a busy space.
Who actually gets it
The feature is rolling out to Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, and Frontline Plus. Business Starter, the entry plan most solo operators and small service businesses default to, is not on the list. If your team is on Starter, nothing changes for you until you upgrade.
Table showing which Google Workspace editions get automatic meeting recaps in Chat.
| Edition | Gets automatic recaps | |
|---|---|---|
| Business Starter | No | |
| Business Standard | Yes | |
| Business Plus | Yes | |
| Enterprise Standard | Yes | |
| Enterprise Plus | Yes | |
| Frontline Plus | Yes |
Where this runs into what you already built
If you already pay for a Zapier, Make, or n8n workflow that pulls the Meet transcript into your CRM or posts a summary to Slack, you now have two notes systems announcing the same meeting. Check whether your workflow reads from the same notes doc Gemini creates. Duplicate processing is the more likely failure mode here, not missing data.
Who can delete a recap
Any participant in the meeting conversation can remove the recap card from Chat through the three-dot menu. The underlying notes document stays in Google Drive either way, so deleting the card does not delete the record.
- 1
Confirm your plan
Check whether your workspace is on Business Starter. If so, this feature does not reach you yet.
- 2
Decide if you want it on
It defaults to on for any domain with Gemini for Workspace enabled, with no per-user setting. Turning it off means turning off Gemini for Workspace admin-wide.
- 3
Audit overlapping automations
List any existing workflow that already touches Meet transcripts or notes, and decide which one owns the action items going forward.
- 4
Set an ownership rule
Gemini assigns action items to named owners on its own. Agree as a team on what happens when it assigns one to the wrong person.
If your team already has a notes pipeline built in n8n, Zapier, or Make, this is a good week to open it up and see whether it still earns its keep, or whether Google just did part of the job for free. Bring your workflow and we can look at it together.
