What Claude Duet means for your small business
Drafted through my n8n + AI pipeline, edited by me.
Anthropic rolled out Claude Duet this week, a research preview of a proactive agent that checks your connected apps on its own and messages you only when something needs a decision. It is not a team tool yet, it runs on the same usage clock as your regular chats, and if you run Claude Pro or Max for your business a waitlist invite may already be sitting in your inbox.
What Claude Duet actually does
Duet runs on Claude Opus 5.5, on its own cloud computer, and you message it like a person rather than a chatbot. It sends a morning brief across your connected apps, then checks in every few hours on its own schedule. You can hand it a task by text or voice, scheduling a meeting or pulling together a report, and it keeps working after you close the app. Before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document, or deletes anything, it shows you exactly what it plans to do and waits for your approval. If you do not answer right away, it finishes the rest of the task and comes back to the approval step later.
What Claude Duet changes right now
The part worth planning around is usage. Duet draws on the same five-hour and weekly limits as regular chat, at the same rate, and its background work counts against those limits too. A morning brief and a handful of check-ins can eat into your ceiling before you have typed a single message yourself. Anthropic is giving new users one full limit reset, covering both the five-hour and weekly caps, available through November 30, 2026, so your first week of testing is the cheapest it will be.
Flow chart showing Claude Duet's approval gate: a background check runs, it decides whether an action needs approval, it shows the exact plan, you approve or hold, then the action runs and counts against your usage limit

What to check before you join the waitlist
- 1
Confirm your plan
You need Pro or Max, a US-based Claude account, and an invite from the waitlist. Team and Enterprise are not supported yet, so this stays a personal tool for now.
- 2
Match your emails
Access ties to the email you submit on the waitlist page, so it needs to match your Claude account and the Apple or Google account on your phone.
- 3
Plan the limit squeeze
Expect background checks to narrow your usable chat budget. Test during your reset window, not during a week you need Claude for client work.
- 4
Keep the approval gate on
Every payment, signature, message, and deletion stops for your okay first. Treat that pause as the safety feature it is, not friction to route around.
- It cannot make phone calls or send texts
- It cannot take over or watch its own browser session
- It can read but not edit your existing Claude work
- It will not trade securities, move money between accounts, or touch someone else's account, even with approval
- Microsoft 365 is not supported yet; Stripe, Link, and Shop Pay are, through a one-time card for each purchase
This is a solo seat, not a shared one
With Team and Enterprise left out for now, Duet fits one owner-operator checking their own accounts, not a shared inbox or a staff handoff. If your business already runs on a team seat, there is nothing to turn on yet.
Does Claude Duet replace my n8n or Zapier automations?
No. It acts inside your connected apps the way a person would, approving one step at a time on its own schedule. A rule-based workflow in n8n or Zapier runs unattended on a trigger; Duet waits for you at every consequential step.
Does it cost extra on top of my subscription?
Not during the research preview. It runs on your existing Pro or Max plan and shares that plan's five-hour and weekly usage limits with your regular chats.
If an invite lands this week, treat it as a trial for one owner's inbox and calendar, not a drop-in for the systems you already have running. Tell me what you would hand it first, invoicing follow-ups, meeting prep, or vendor replies, and I will help you figure out where the approval gate actually saves you time.
